The wonderful comic ‘Le Scorpion’ by Marini and Desberg has always been a great source of inspiration for me. I transfered the mark of the scorpion to Quint’s shoulder in my campaign, which he received in the same way as the main character in the comic: it was burned into his shoulder when his father (king Eodred in my version) tried to toss his newly-born bastard son into the flames, but shrank away from the vile deed in the last moment, missing his mark. The baby hit the searing hot metalwork in the hearth instead, which scorched the image of a scorpion in his flesh. The party learns this secret from the ghost of Eodred’s dead brother, Venster. The images were taken from the Scorpion comic and rearranged. I greatly recommend buying and reading these comics; they are fantastic! If you want to find out more about the secrets Venster reveals, you can go to the campaign journal section of Paizo's messageboards under MrVergee's Curse of the Crimson Throne.
